Jobs in Web Design and Marketing
When you think about employment opportunities in technology today they aren’t the same as they used to be. An Internet marketing consultant used to make the highest pay you could make in the industry. Things have changed and the job isn’t so glamorous anymore.
A web designer in the past used to have one primary job and that was to create web pages. Nothing really mattered but the functionality and being creative with pictures and a neat layout. Web pages used to be designed by writing code. The position usually required a degree and knowledge of writing code in a language like html, C++, Visual Basic or some other form. Building web pages was difficult to do and valuable knowledge.
If you are considering a job in technology today designing pages for the Internet then you might think again. The skills aren’t valuable anymore because so many tools have replaced the knowledge of code. Software has automated website building and it is now a brainless effort. Anyone can construct their own establishment on the web with little to no effort. Jobs also pay nothing now like they used to. Most consultants might be making minimum wage if they are lucky.
The position has changed entirely also too. The job description is no longer writing code and only building creative pages but it includes much more now. A designer on the web must be able to write useful content. Content is everything. Some businesses don’t even care what the content says.
The web today is not what it used to be. There are so many businesses making a ton of money for generating the more traffic to their sites and having people click on their links. It’s about the number of clicks today and not what you provide. People will write anything to generate good keywords and it doesn’t even matter if it makes sense. If your sites are focused on jewelry stores or perfume and cologne then you will want keywords that talk about those items.
Old time consultants have to continue to educate themselves on the newer technologies evolving on the web today also. Video is now popular too. Many firms want a video ad because customers like the interaction with something they can watch rather than read. People like to add keywords and their website addresses in the videos to give themselves the advertising this way. There is a lot of busy work required with a consultant job now too with the advertising efforts. Some people might just want one article URL bookmarked on 50 different sites. This just requires you to log into the site and bookmark places online after creating accounts.
There are many reasons why being a consultant in technology isn’t a good job anymore. The profession used to be the top paying job and a lot of fun. Things have changed now and the technologies have eliminated the need for a consultant. They have redesigned the position entirely forcing coders to be able to learn to write and provide marketing efforts through social sites.
